In 2016, Ashton appeared on “TODAY” to promote his Netflix series “The Ranch.” But then the conversation turned to Thorn — an organization he and his ex-wife Demi Moore founded in 2008.

Thorn reported that in 2015, 75 percent of child sex trafficking survivors it surveyed were eventually “sold” online. “Basically, the purchase and commerce for human trafficking is happening online, just like everything else now, and so we’re building digital tools to fight back against it,” Ashton said.

In one year alone, Ashton and his company identified and recovered over 6,000 trafficking victims, along with identifying and recovering 2,000 traffickers.

This is a staggering statistic, but not one he uses to bolster fame or power. Again, it’s something of which many people are unaware.
