In Revelation 1, John, a persecuted apostle, was given the Book of Revelation while on the island of Patmos. Despite being banished and possibly imprisoned, John's faith in Christ remained strong. He was a companion to the seven churches, sharing their suffering and suffering with each other. John's vision was used to provide counsel and comfort to the churches, encouraging them to pay attention to Christ's teachings. John's suffering was not as an evil-doer but as a testimony of Jesus, bearing witness to Christ as Immanuel.

On the Lord's day, John heard a great voice, Alpha and Omega, instructing him to write a book and send it to the seven Asian churches. This vision occurred on the Christian sabbath, the first day of the week, to remember the resurrection of Christ. John's soul was in a serious, heavenly, spiritual frame of mind, under the blessed grace of the Spirit.
