Metal Drummer Now a Masonic Grand Lodge Officer Discusses One Day Masons

On this episode of the Old Fashion Masonic Podcast, Past Master Brian Byrd sits down with Nebraska Grand Lodge Officer Eric Bensalah. Eric, who is no stranger to youtube (see channel link below) offered up a spectacular interview.

Eric BenSalah was raised a Master Mason in July of 2016 and served a two-year term as Worshipful Master of John J. Mercer Lodge No. 290 in Omaha, NE from 2020 through 2021, earning Worshipful Master of the year and the Grand Master's Leadership Award for '21.

During his time as a Mason, Eric became heavily involved with the local Rainbow Girls Assembly, Benson Diana No. 2, later becoming Rainbow Dad in 2022, a role he still currently serves in. As a Past State Rainbow Dad and current Chairman of the local assembly's advisory board, Eric also found himself put into the Grand Lodge Officer line in 2021 and appointed as a Deputy Grand Custodian.

Eric often presents unorthodox Masonic education, often choosing to tell stories influenced by David Foster Wallace and by Zen Buddhism and Taoism, on how Masonry affects our lives and where it lives in our souls. Eric also served as Camp Planning Director for the Nebraska Masonic All-Star Marching Band Camp in 2022 and 2023.

On a personal level, Eric is married to his wife Angie Centarri. They have two dogs – Waffles and Flapjack (Flappy), attend numerous live concerts and music festivals, and hike anywhere from coast to coast. Eric works for the local power company educating students about energy through their Energy Education Program and adults through presentations and other events. A drummer for nearly 30 years, Eric has played in live bands in the area, marched with the Cornhusker Marching Band from 2001 through 2003 and even taught drumline at his high school for a few years. Eric is an avid reader of science fiction, philosophy, astronomy, psychology, and of course, David Foster Wallace.
