Birth of a Star, Darwinian Universal ep5
Darwinian Universal is a cosmology and physics theory that aims to provide a comprehensive explanation of the universe's origin and evolution, as well as the fundamental principles governing its behaviour. This theory incorporates elements of natural selection and evolution, as well as concepts from various fields of physics, such as quantum mechanics and general relativity.
The Darwinian Universal theory posits that the universe is a dynamic and evolving system, in which structures and processes emerge and change over time in a manner analogous to biological evolution. This includes the formation of galaxies, stars, planets, atoms and the emergence of life itself.
The theory also proposes that the fundamental constants and laws of physics may not be fixed and unchanging but could have evolved and fine-tuned over time through a process of natural selection. This could potentially explain the apparent fine-tuning of the universe, as well as the emergence of complex structures and phenomena.
The birth of a star is a delicate balance of cosmic forces, where an intricate series of physical processes converge to create a stable, self-sustaining stellar body. It all begins within a nebula—a vast cloud of gas and dust—bathed in the faint glow of the Cosmic Microwave Background, with its persistent temperature of 2.7 Kelvin. This subtle radiation influences the nebula, atoms being particularly sensitive to the absorption as heat at this frequency.
As gravity takes hold, the material within the nebula starts to coalesce, concentrating heat and pressure at its core. This gradual build-up eventually reaches a critical threshold, sparking the ignition of nuclear fusion—the heart of a star’s power. The fusion process itself is finely tuned; too sensitive, and the star would explode in a cataclysmic burst; too weak, and it would collapse under gravity’s relentless pull. Yet, in most cases, a self-regulating balance is achieved, allowing the star to shine for billions of years.
As fusion ignites, the star releases a powerful stream of photons from its surface—light particles that exert outward pressure on the collapsing nebula. This radiation pressure counteracts the inward pull of gravity, preventing the star from accumulating excess gas. In doing so, it regulates the star's growth, stabilizing it at an optimal size and effectively ending its growth phase at the right moment.
The standard model of cosmology describes these processes but struggles to explain their precise calibration. How is it that an atoms sensitivity to the CMB temperature, fusion sensitivity, gravity, and photon flux all align so perfectly? If any one of these or a myriad of other factors were slightly different, the star—and by extension, the universe—would not function as we know it.
The Darwinian Universal theory proposes an intriguing possibility: could the finely tuned processes of star formation result from a cosmic evolutionary mechanism? Just as natural selection refines biological traits, aligning a wide array of behaviors to act in harmony, a similar process may shape the forces that govern stars. This would ensure their stability and persistence over time. Without the fusion process generating internal pressure, the size of stellar bodies would be severely constrained. It’s not hard to imagine fusion as an evolutionary advancement within a cosmological environment that favors the emergence of larger, more complex celestial bodies.
As we further explore this idea, we'll delve into how the atomic properties that enable star formation could be the result of a broader cosmic evolutionary process—one that operates seamlessly across both the microscopic and macroscopic scales of the universe.
