While on my show I often focus on broad issues that face the nation as a whole, occasionally I will hear of a local story that is worth our time and attention, especially when we can provide exposure of corruption or a denial of justice to those who need our help and platforms like this can shine a light in the darkness, or bring the social pressures necessary for positive change to occur.

Todays guest is Tammy Bowen- a licensed minister, who has been professionally involved with abuse prevention, recovery and treatment for almost two decades since losing her husband to a cocaine overdose in 2005. We will also be having on “Katie” and abuse survivor, who has chosen to maker story public share her perspective of what it has been like to go through this process.Tammy's personal experiences have give her a deep understanding of the challenges faced by those struggling with addiction, and she has used her passion for helping the hurting with a whole host of local ministries, and is now the director and founder of The Bethesda House, a non-profit organization that provides meals, fellowship, transformational housing and ministries for people experiencing deep seated trauma. Bethesda house has been utilized as a resource by local crisis units such as public volunteer behavioral health for people with no place to go.

The goal of this interview today is two-fold - one is to shine a light on the initial denial of justice by a local (Rutherford County) school board to provide education a young female abuse survivor who is legally allowed to complete her education. If not for the efforts of Tammy Bowden and Bethesda house, Katie would likely be homeless today without an opportunity to finish school.

And two, provide a platform for this wonderful local ministry, called The Bethesda House. Side Note: my grandfather fred McDonald is also the president of the board of Bethesda House.

Tammy Bowen: "The Rutherford Co. legal department stated that NO school wants to take an 18 year old because they can legally drop out and they don't want to risk a back mark on their record. We will discuss how this causes people become homeless and how there are many holes in our system and seemingly people who care more about the numbers than the individuals. "Katie" wants a time to talk and share her heart on how it is from her perspective to go through this process."
