** Psalm 41 is a heartfelt prayer written by King David during a time of illness and betrayal. David reflects on how God blesses those who care for the poor and needy. Despite being surrounded by enemies and even betrayed by a close friend, David puts his trust in Yahweh's mercy and power to heal. In this psalm, David recognizes his own sin and cries out for forgiveness and restoration. His plea for deliverance is also a declaration of God's steadfast love and faithfulness. This blues song captures the depth of David's emotions, bringing his timeless words into a new light through the soulful expression of the blues.

** Psalm 41 (WEB Translation):
1 Blessed is he who considers the poor.
Yahweh will deliver him in the day of evil.
2 Yahweh will preserve him, and keep him alive.
He shall be blessed on the earth,
and he will not surrender him to the will of his enemies.
3 Yahweh will sustain him on his sickbed,
and restore him from his bed of illness.

4 I said, "Yahweh, have mercy on me!
Heal me, for I have sinned against you."
5 My enemies speak evil against me:
"When will he die, and his name perish?"
6 If he comes to see me, he speaks falsehood.
His heart gathers iniquity to itself.
When he goes outside, he tells it.
7 All who hate me whisper together against me.
They imagine the worst for me.
8 "An evil disease," they say, "has afflicted him.
Now that he lies he shall rise up no more."
9 Yes, my own familiar friend, in whom I trusted,
who ate bread with me,
has lifted up his heel against me.
10 But you, Yahweh, have mercy on me, and raise me up,
that I may repay them.
11 By this I know that you delight in me,
because my enemy doesn't triumph over me.
12 As for me, you uphold me in my integrity,
and set me in your presence forever.

13 Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel,
from everlasting and to everlasting!
Amen and amen.

"Mercy on Me Blues" Lyrics:
(Based on Psalm 41, WEB)

Verse 1:
Blessed is the one who cares for the poor,
Yahweh delivers him when evil's at the door.
He preserves him, keeps him alive,
Enemies can't touch him; in Yahweh, he'll survive.
(Oh, in Yahweh, he'll survive.)

Verse 2:
On my sickbed, Yahweh sustains,
He'll restore my soul, take away my pain.
My enemies whisper, plotting my fall,
But Yahweh's mercy stands above it all.
(Oh, His mercy stands above it all.)

Chorus:
I said, "Yahweh, have mercy on me,
Heal my soul, Lord, for I've sinned against Thee."
They ask, "When will he die, when will he fade?"
But You lift me up, and their plans are stayed.
(Yeah, You lift me up, and their plans are stayed.)

Verse 3:
They gather lies, speak evil of me,
Even my friend, my familiar company.
He shared my bread, now he's turned away,
But Yahweh, Your mercy is here to stay.
(Oh, Your mercy is here to stay.)

Chorus:
I said, "Yahweh, have mercy on me,
Heal my soul, Lord, for I've sinned against Thee."
Enemies wish me down in the grave,
But You raise me up, Yahweh, You save.
(Yeah, You raise me up, Yahweh, You save.)

Bridge:
Now I know You delight in me,
'Cause my enemy doesn't triumph, doesn't see victory.
You uphold me in integrity,
Set me in Your presence, eternally.
(Oh, You set me in Your presence, eternally.)

Verse 4 (Original Text - Expanded):
Yahweh will preserve me, He won't let me fall,
Even in sickness, He sustains through it all.
Restore me, Lord, from this bed of pain,
For in Your mercy, I'll rise again.
(Yes, in Your mercy, I'll rise again.)

Chorus:
I said, "Yahweh, have mercy on me,
Heal my soul, Lord, for I've sinned against Thee."
They speak of disease, they hope I'll stay down,
But You lift me up, give me back my crown.
(Oh, You lift me up, give me back my crown.)

Outro:
Blessed be Yahweh, the God of all,
From everlasting to everlasting, I call.
Amen and amen, let it be,
Lord, have mercy, have mercy on me.
(Yeah, have mercy, have mercy on me.)
