Former NBA player Mitchell Wiggins has passed away at the age of 64, as confirmed by the Houston Rockets. Wiggins, who played for the Chicago Bulls and Philadelphia 76ers, was drafted in the first round by the Indiana Pacers in 1983. He is also the father of Golden State Warriors star Andrew Wiggins.

No specific details about his death have been released, but the Houston Chronicle reported that he passed on Monday surrounded by family. Earlier in 2023, Andrew Wiggins missed several games due to his father’s serious health issues, as reported by Shams Charania.

The Houston Rockets expressed their condolences on social media, stating, “Today we mourn the passing of former Houston Rockets guard, Mitchell Wiggins. Our sincerest condolences go out to his family and friends.”

Mitchell’s son Andrew became an NBA champion with the Warriors in 2022 and signed a four-year, $109 million contract afterward. Mitchell frequently attended his son’s games with his wife, Marita Payne, a two-time Olympic silver medalist for Canada.

Mitchell Wiggins is survived by his wife, six children—Andrew, Nick, Mitchell II, Stephanie, Angelica, and Taya—along with siblings and three grandchildren.
