A rarity...The Giant Penda Tree
The whole area over this side of the river, just out of town, has Cassowaries with chicks roaming all over it so be warned. They are seen regularly.
Fathers are known to go to extreme lengths to protect their young if they feel they're threatened and if it wasn't obvious already - either don't take your dog in their if you're unable to control it and if you must the dog MUST be on a lead for the safety of the dog, the cassowaries and YOURSELF.
Thay 'hardened' a car parking area for people to park across the road but as yet they are yet to 'harden' the track in or around the trees themselves.
As more and more people seem to be accessing the track to get to the trees these days, maybe it's time we seriously looked at doing something about this before it's too late.
