Southern California Breaks Record For Most 4.0+ Mag Quakes In Single Year

A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck Malibu at 7:28 a.m., followed by a 2.8 aftershock and four more ranging from 2.7 to 3.5 in the next hour, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Initially reported as a 5.1, the quake was centered five miles north of Malibu and seven miles deep. No injuries or significant damage have been reported.

USGS seismologist Lucy Jones noted a rise in magnitude-4 earthquakes in Southern California this year, with 14 so far compared to the average of eight, Deadline has reported.
