Bible Study: Ruth, Preaching, an Oath, and the Holy Spirit

We return to the first chapter of Ruth and examine why the Jew's don't evangelize, the Oath of Ruth, and begin a review of manifestations of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament in order to establish why the Holy Spirit gives miraculous signs to some, but not to others.

Ruth successfully proselytizes 50% of her daughters in law (contradicting the Jewish tradition that they were not called to preach). Ruth then swears an oath in God's name. (Is it OK to do that)? We examine all the forms of her particular oath in the Bible, and oaths in the New Testament. We address why your church's statement of faith regarding the inerrancy of the "original autographs" is neither accurate nor helpful. And then we review the indwelling of the Holy Spirit as documented in the Old Testament in light of "why does the Holy Spirit is manifest with signs and wonders with some people", and begin to examine why that's not the case with others, (but much more on that next time). Why was Samson not able to deliver Israel from oppression in spite of all the miraculous feats he did? We look at the birth announcements of Samson and Samuel and begin to review the circumstances of change God made from the Days of the Judges to the Davidic Monarchy.
