The US is going bankrupt because of interest payments on the national debt, Elon Musk said in an All-In podcast, a recording of which was published on social network X.

"America is going bankrupt quickly," the businessman said, stressing that interest payments on the U.S. government debt have exceeded the country's defense budget.

The Department of Defense budget is a very big budget, one trillion dollars a year.

In addition, Musk said that in case of Donald Trump’s victory, there will be an opportunity to reduce the composition of the government.

Earlier, according to Trump, Musk agreed to be responsible for the audit of the US government in case Trump wins the election by creating a government efficiency commission charged with auditing the entire federal government and recommending sweeping reforms.

In August, Trump promised in case of his election victory to reduce the U.S. national debt, which by that time had reached $35 trillion.
