Her First Romance is a 1940 American musical comedy film directed by Edward Dmytryk. based on Gene Stratton-Porter's novel Her Father's Daughter.

SYNOPSIS
Linda Strong, a plain college student, laments her looks preventing her from getting a date for the dance. Fraternity pledge Donald Whiting, on a dare, asks her out, but her half-sister Eileen forbids her from going. With the help of Katy and Marian, Linda gets a dress.

Linda meets Philip Niles, a famous singer, while singing in the woods. He later takes her to the dance after she learns about Donald's dare. Linda becomes the center of attention at the dance, and Eileen plots to use Philip to advance Linda's singing career.

Linda tries to win Philip by stranding them at a cabin, but her plan is exposed. Misunderstandings ensue, but John, Marian’s former fiancé, realizes he loves Marian and proposes.
