Da Urban Conservative: Honor Oath or Hollow Words??

Let me paint you a picture. A man, pulled over on a Miami street, finds himself face down on the pavement, hands cuffed, and dignity stripped. His crime? Driving while Black. They’ll say he was speeding or reckless, but we know the truth, don’t we? The truth is that Tyreek Hill was guilty of nothing more than existing in a world where the color of your skin is all it takes to be condemned.
The police will tell you they’re here to protect and serve. They’ll recite their oath with conviction—“On my honor, I will never betray my integrity, my character, or the public trust.” But let me ask you, where was that honor when Hill, a man with the world watching, was dragged down and shackled? Where was that integrity when his teammate Calais Campbell, simply trying to defend a brother, found himself in cuffs as well? They say it’s about accountability, about upholding the highest ethical standards, but we see the truth every day: empty promises backed by NDAs and hushed settlements.
Justin Robinson, a man who dedicated his life to interrupting violence, found himself on the wrong side of a bullet fired by those sworn to protect. The MPD released their body cam footage, but what do we see? We see another Black man’s life extinguished, another family mourning, another community left to pick up the pieces. The outcry is loud, but the accountability? Silent.
What does it mean to swear an oath of honor when there’s no honor in the actions that follow? What does it mean to claim integrity when the badge becomes a shield, not against crime, but against the consequences of your own brutality? They hide behind NDAs, behind press conferences filled with empty words, while the blood of our brothers stains the streets.
This is the same story, repeated over and over—different names, different cities, but the same outcome. The police system, as it stands, is not broken; it’s functioning exactly as it was designed. It was never meant to protect us. It was never meant to serve our communities with honor. It was built to control, to dominate, to enforce a status quo that keeps us oppressed and silenced.
So, we must ask ourselves, where do we go from here? How do we break these chains? How do we hold them accountable when the system itself is corrupt? We can’t rely on their oaths, on their words, because we’ve seen time and time again that they mean nothing. It’s up to us to demand real change, to organize, to rise up and declare that enough is enough.
The time for silence is over. The time for waiting is over. We must fight for a world where our children don’t have to fear the very people who are supposed to keep them safe. A world where an oath of honor actually means something, where integrity isn’t just a word, but a way of life. Until then, we must remain vigilant, we must remain strong, and we must never, ever back down.
