House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries criticized the GOP’s stopgap funding proposal as “unserious and unacceptable,” setting up a contentious vote in the House.

Jeffries objected to Speaker Mike Johnson’s plan, which includes a six-month continuing resolution and the SAVE Act—Trump-backed legislation requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote.

He argued for a shorter resolution to finalize funding before the end of the year and condemned the SAVE Act as partisan and unnecessary.

Jeffries’s opposition adds to the pressure on Johnson, who needs Republican votes to pass the package amid skepticism from some GOP members, The Hill has reported.
