Buckhorn Rapids - Cape Fear River (Far Right Channel & Attaining)

With combined flow of 1600 cfs on the Haw River and Deep River at Moncure, I decided to run the Buckhorn Falls rapids on the Cape Fear. I like the channel just left of this one, but it’s always cool to paddle such a narrow section when it’s free enough of serious strainers. It’s about a mile hike back if you take the creek trail river left, but I’ve been wanting to see if I could do the trip down and then up all in the kayak. I think it’s possible to do, maybe at about 500 cfs more and with a longer boat, but I had to portage 3 times over some ledges I couldn’t attain. I have a brief video of 2 of the spots I portaged. Would love to hear from anyone that’s paddled all the way back up since I’m pretty confident it’s possible. Enjoy!
