Driver Strikes Concrete Barrier, Rolls Pickup, LAURELIA, September 8, 2024 - At approximately 11:20 am on September 8, 2024, the driver of a silver 2022 GMC pickup was north-bound on US-59 when he drifted left, and crashed through a plastic buffer device and clipped a concrete barrier causing him to lose control of his pickup and go into a slide and then a roll. His truck rolled one time and came to rest upright facing south in the left lane of 59. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with The Corrigan Volunteer Fire Department, Officers from the Corrigan Police Department, Sergeant Roper Ellison with the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Trooper Nick Hatton with The Texas Highway Patrol. The driver walked away from the crash uninjured. It seems that the driver possibly was sleepy and nodded off briefly causing the accident. The pickup was recovered by Riley Wrecker Service out of Corrigan. No citations were issued.
