Hedge of Thorns

What is a hedge? Webster’s 1828 dictionary defines a hedge: a thicket of thorn-bushes or other shrubs or small trees; but appropriately, such a thicket planted round a field to fence it, or in rows, to separate the parts of a garden. So a hedge is designed to keep things in and a hedge can be planted to keep things out and it is set up to separate things. To aid in this, often hedges are planted with thorn bushes in order to keep things from breaking through the hedge. God the Father sets up hedges of thorns in our lives in order to keep us where we should be and to keep us from where should not be. The hedge of thorns may seem uncomfortable and difficult but they are there for our own good.
