Upper Darling Range Railway

Benjamin Mason first carted Jarrah, (Swan River Mahogany) on a wooden rail to Mason's Landing in Cannington and then by horse drawn barge down the Canning River to Fremantle. The horses walked along a path set on stumps down the middle of the river and some remain today. The line was built later but found to be unprofitable. All that remains of the Upper Darling Range Railway is the Kalamunda Zig Zag roadway.
