BMW's oil cooler placement on the F8X chassis models is questionable at best. Presumably, for packaging reasons, they lay flat along the bottom of the car, ahead of the engine, making them vulnerable to any sharp road hit or an object that may travel under the car. Considering it's filled with engine oil, protecting it better than the factory did is one of the best upgrades you can make to prolong the life of your M car.

Upgrading the oil cooler guard on the BMW M3, M4, and M2 is relatively simple. There are many options, but we chose the aluminum version from Fall-Line Motorsports. Installation requires getting under the car, but from there, only a few tools and a little bit of time are needed to complete the job.
