Testing Normal (Not New Not Old) Water

A routine testing of pool water. Introducing the idea of an easy Langlier approach to water balance. The concept begins with noting that there are 3 kinds of water; New, old, and normal (where ph and total alkalinity are within normal ranges and move together when acid or base is added. New water has lower calcium and conditioner and often a high ph even if TA is 80 or lower. Old water will have a higher TA even though the ph is as low as it can go (7.2). The last but most important factor for EZ Langlier (especially with new water) is to have a calcium hardness level of 350 ppm and the goal to have either a 7.2 ph (old water) or a total alkalinity (TA) of 80 ppm (new water) or be within ideal ranges for both when dealing with normal water.
