Spinner Dolphin MegaPod, Manta Rays, Bait Balls, Bow Riding & World Class Monster Tuna. On this beautiful sunny day, our local captain friend found thousands of Spinner Dolphins, Manta Rays, and Yellowfin Tuna feasting on a gigantic shoal of Lantern Fish. Later that night, we dined on fresh caught Tuna prepared as it was done during the good old days of Gringo Curt's Restaurant.
-Yeah, it’s just as much fun as it appears.
Here’s our background story;
We live in, BY FAR, the most intensely bio-diverse place on the planet. Our little village seems to be disconnected from the rest of Costa Rica, and it's located on its smallest peninsula.
The most amazing feature also causes it to contain such incredibly healthy biodiversity. Here, we have something that doesn’t exist anywhere else. Here, NEVER before cut primary lowland rainforest seamlessly blends into its adjoining protected oceanic coastlines. Because there is no fishing alongside Costa Rica’s most incredible national park, the oceanic ecosystems here are just as pristine as the coastal and terrestrial habitats.
When we hike or swim we explore spots that seem like humans never evolved before.
It doesn’t suck.
So, what do people living here do for fun?
Well, I obviously can’t speak for everyone living here, but many local conversations include the number of different species that were experienced during the day, along with a top 5 list for the week. People here constantly attempt to one-up each other’s nature experiences, while we progressively study the systems that bind these natural ecosystems together.
Despite what one might suspect, in regards to all the one-upping that we do, we’re not the most competitive of groups. It’s more of an, I’m luckier than you, sort of bragging situation that seems to be going on.
As all respectable species counters, we become much more motivated to explore when our results can be substantiated with evidence. So, when I finally acquired a GoPro Hero 3, we were at last able to have our fun below the water’s surface. Along the way, we’ve experienced more unforgettable memories than anyone could remember. For this reason, I've created this video-formatted memory archive on YouTube. And, to make these video memories even more enjoyable, our newer modelled GoPro is presently equipped with video stabilizers. Before they were invented holding the camera still enough, to generate quality recordings, had been a frustrating challenge. I like to look back and think that we were as successful as we could’ve been but, realistically, if all of the “Too Shaky” bits weren’t "too shaky to use" then these uploads would’ve been even better.
On this, our very first boat trip with the new GoPro Hero 3, we ably captured some really great action. We were less experienced back then so our uploads appeared way shakier than what we’d presently deem to be worthy, that said, I remember how crazy-excited everyone was while watching this first video creation together. Charlotte was the first to say, “It’s like watching David Attenborough’s Blue Planet Documentary”. And so, we’ve been calling these little group voyages some variation of “The Blue Planet Tour” ever since.

If I spent every day of my life in the jungle, I’d die a lucky happy man. But the ocean is absolutely my favorite. And, though coastal snorkelling here is amazing, we would all love to do lots more group trips, both offshore and out to the island. Long boating adventures, however, become expensive rather quickly. Still, we are absolutely grateful for the trips we have enjoyed together and, if I do say so myself, the videos are unreal. None of us take credit for them though. All credit should go to this amazing location. We’re simply pressing the RECORD button.
