Super Typhoon Yagi, the strongest storm to hit China’s southern coast in a decade, made landfall in Hainan on Friday, causing widespread disruption.

The storm, the largest in Asia this year and the world’s second-most powerful of 2024, has led to 400,000 evacuations, school closures, and flight cancellations across Hong Kong, Macau, Hainan, and Guangdong.

With sustained winds of 150 mph, Yagi has been described as “extremely dangerous.”

The storm has already killed 16 people in the Philippines and is expected to weaken as it moves toward Vietnam and Laos, NBC News has reported.
