Colt Gray, the 14-year-old student charged with murdering two of his classmates and two teachers at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia made his first court appearance on Friday morning.

During the brief arraignment, the teen was read his rights by the judge and he was informed of the felony murder charges against him, which are punishable by death or life in prison. The teen's lawyer did not request bond at this time.

The judge later returned to inform Colt Gray that because he is under the age of 18, the death penalty is not an option.

Investigators allege Colt Gray used a semiautomatic assault-style rifle in Wednesday’s attack at his school outside of Atlanta, also wounding nine people.

No motive has been revealed by authorities and they have also not said how the student obtained the gun or got it into the school.

The teen’s father, Colin Gray, 54, was charged Thursday in connection with the shooting, including with counts of involuntary manslaughter and second-degree murder, Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Chris Hosey.

“His charges are directly connected with the actions of his son and allowing him to possess a weapon,” Hosey said. Colin Gray’s first court appearance also was set for Friday.
