Heart Island, located in the Thousand Islands region of the St. Lawrence River, is best known for Boldt Castle, a grand structure with a romantic history. The island was purchased in the late 19th century by millionaire hotel magnate George C. Boldt, who intended to build the castle as a tribute to his wife, Louise. Construction began in 1900, but when Louise tragically died in 1904, Boldt halted all work on the castle, leaving it incomplete for decades. The island and the unfinished castle were abandoned until the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority acquired it in 1977. Since then, efforts have been made to restore Boldt Castle, making Heart Island a popular tourist destination, symbolizing love and loss.
