Rapper Rich Homie Quan, real name Dequantes Devontay Lamar, has tragically passed away at the age of 34, with rumors suggesting a drug overdose as the cause. He was found dead on Thursday at his Atlanta home, just weeks before he was set to perform at Nick Cannon’s Wild N Out alongside artists like Waka Flocka and Nardo Wick.

His family expressed their devastation to TMZ, saying they are “shattered and heartbroken” by his sudden death, just one month shy of his 35th birthday. The Fulton County morgue confirmed the news of his passing, but his family has not yet confirmed the exact cause of death despite ongoing rumors fueled by other musicians.

Tributes have poured in, with fellow rapper Playboi Carti sharing several clips of Rich Homie Quan on his Instagram story. Lamar rose to fame in 2013 with his hit single “Type of Way,” which reached number 50 on the Billboard Top 100, and followed it with tracks like “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” and “Ride Out.” He also gained recognition as part of the group Rich Gang, collaborating with Young Thug on a Cash Money Records project, and was hailed by the New York Times as part of Atlanta’s rising generation of rappers.

His latest single, “Ah’Chi,” featured a collaboration with rapper 2 Chainz. Lamar was also set to testify in the trial of his former bandmate Young Thug, who faces charges related to street gang activities.
