The Real Deal About Starting Yoga in Your 60s!

Hey everyone, Lisa Jo here, your essential oil girl! Just chilling in my car, still in my swimsuit after a rejuvenating session of yoga. If you've been following my journey from Cocoa Beach, Florida to Lone Tree, Colorado, you know I've been exploring new ways to "get a life" here, and today, I wanted to share my latest escapade into the world of yoga.

After my little misadventure with line dancing—yes, I was demoted but chose to bow out on principle due to the same instructor running the beginner class—I've been exploring other activities. So, it's yoga now, and I've got two options: Yin Yoga on Wednesdays and beginner yoga on Thursdays. Unfortunately, my Bible study group meets on Thursdays, so Yin Yoga it is!

For those unfamiliar, Yin Yoga involves holding poses for extended periods, like two to three minutes, aimed at stretching out your fascia and joints. It's quite gentle in terms of movement but don’t be fooled—it can be intense! A couple of weeks ago, I learned this the hard way. A particular pose had me lay on my stomach (not the best for my endowed self), and I ended up tweaking my neck—ouch, eight days of stiffness!

Today was my first day back after skipping a week out of sheer yoga-induced fear. But I managed! I adapted the movements to suit what my body could handle without any strain, and that's the beauty of yoga: making it your own.

Afterward, a dip in the jacuzzi is non-negotiable—it's the perfect way to prevent soreness, and boy, does it feel divine! Though the transition from jacuzzi to car could have been smoother; I’m driving home dripping wet but happy.

For those curious about how my yoga journey is evolving: yes, I'm still at it and fingers crossed, no injuries this time!
