China's President Xi Jinping has welcomed more than two dozen African leaders to Beijing for a summit that could further boost Beijing's economic influence across the continent.

Xi is expected to push for an increase in Chinese exports to countries in exchange for further investment in energy and infrastructure.

China's loans to African nations have totalled billions in recent years which critics say contributes to mounting national debts in some countries.
