The Holy Quran tells us in its stories about the story of the Prophet of God, Solomon, peace and blessings be upon him and our Prophet, with the hoopoe. One day, Solomon, peace be upon him, gathered the birds in his council where he was sitting in Jerusalem. Solomon looked at the birds and then said: {And he inspected the birds and said, "Why do I not see the hoopoe? Or is he among the absent ones? (20) I will surely punish him with a severe punishment or I will slaughter him, or he must bring me clear authority." (21)}.

Then the hoopoe came and returned to Jerusalem and learned of the threat of the Prophet of God, Solomon, to him, but the hoopoe had an excuse, and there was a convincing reason for his absence. God Almighty says: {So he stayed not long and said, "I have encompassed that which you have not encompassed, and I have come to you from Sheba with certain news."}.

The hoopoe presented his excuse to the Prophet of God, Solomon, that he had found a woman leading a large army in a land called (Sheba), and this woman possessed from the worldly pleasures and adornments what a powerful king would need, and she had a great throne "bed" studded with precious jewels and pearls inside a great palace, and that she and her people worshipped the sun and prostrated to it instead of God Almighty.

Allah the Almighty says, informing about the hoopoe’s story to the Prophet of Allah, Solomon: {Indeed, I found a woman ruling over them, and she has been given of all things, and she has a mighty throne. (23) I found her and her people prostrating to the sun, besides Allah. And Satan has made their deeds pleasing to them and averted them from the way, so they are not guided. (24)}, and the hoopoe was amazed at their worship of other than Allah and how Satan had blinded their insight and understanding: {They do not prostrate to Allah, Who brings forth what is hidden in the heavens And the earth, and He knows what you conceal and what you declare (25) Allah - there is no god but He, Lord of the Mighty Throne (26)}.

When Solomon, peace be upon him, learned the news, he said to the hoopoe, “We will look into what you say and make sure whether you are truthful or lying.”

Then Solomon, peace be upon him, wrote a letter to deliver to the Queen of Sheba, calling her to believe in Allah Almighty, and he asked the hoopoe to throw the letter in the palace without letting anyone know, then he would wait to see what she and her people would do.

Allah the Almighty says: {He said, "We will see whether you have told the truth or are among the liars." (28) Go with this letter of mine and deliver it to them, then turn away from them and see what they will return.}

When Queen Bilqis saw the letter and looked at it, she gathered her entourage and showed it to them, then asked them to advise her and guide her on what to do?بقلم – هاني ضوَّه :يخبرنا القرآن الكريم في قصصه عن قصة نبي الله سليمان عليه وعلى نبينا أفضل الصلاة والسلام مع الهدهد، ففي ذات يوم جمع سليمان عليه السلام الطيور في مجلسه الذي كان يجلس فيه في القدس، نظر سليمان إلى الطيور ثم قال: {وتفَقَّدَ الطَّيْرَ فَقَالَ مَا لِيَ لَا أَرَى الْهُدْهُدَ أَمْ كَانَ مِنَ الْغَائِبِينَ (20) لَأُعَذِّبَنَّهُ عَذَاباً شَدِيداً أَوْ لَأَذْبَحَنَّهُ أَوْ لَيَأْتِيَنِّي بِسُلْطَانٍ مُّبِينٍ (21)}.إعلان
وبعدها جاء الهدهد وعاد إلى القدس وعلم بوعيد نبي الله سليمان له، ولكن الهدد كان عذره موجودًا، ولغيابه سبب مقنع، يقول الله تعالى: {فَمَكَثَ غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ فَقَالَ أَحَطتُ بِمَا لَمْ تُحِطْ بِهِ وَجِئْتُكَ مِن سَبَإٍ بِنَبَإٍ يَقِينٍ}.وقدم الهدد عذره لنبي الله سليمان بأنه وجد امرأة تقود جيشاً كبيراً بأرض يقال لها (سبأ)، وهذه المرأة تملك من متاع الدنيا وزينتها ما يحتاج إليه الملك القوي، ولها عرش "سرير" عظيم مرصع بالجواهر واللآلئ الثمينة داخل قصر عظيم، وأنها وقومها يعبدون الشمس ويسجدون لها من دون الله تعالى.يقول تعالى مخبرًا عن حديث الهدهد لنبي الله سليمان: {إِنِّي وَجَدتُّ امْرَأَةً تَمْلِكُهُمْ وَأُوتِيَتْ مِن كُلِّ شَيْءٍوَلَهَا عَرْشٌ عَظِيمٌ (23) وَجَدتُّهَا وَقَوْمَهَا يَسْجُدُونَ لِلشَّمْسِ مِندُونِ اللَّهِ وَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ أَعْمَالَهُمْ فَصَدَّهُمْ عَنِالسَّبِيلِ فَهُمْ لَا يَهْتَدُونَ (24)}، وتعجب الهدهد من عبادتهم لغير الله وكيف ان الشيطان أعمى بصائرهم وأفهامهم: {لَّا يَسْجُدُوا لِلَّهِ الَّذِييُخْرِجُ الْخَبْءَ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا تُخْفُونَ وَمَاتُعْلِنُونَ (25) اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ (26)}.وعندما علم سليمان عليه السلام بالخبر قال للهدهد سوف ننظر فيما تقول ونتأكد إن كنت من الصادقين أم الكاذبين.ثم كتب سليمان عليه السلام رسالة ليسلّمها إلى ملكة (سبأ) يدعوها إلى الإيمان بالله تعالى، وطلب من الهدهد أن يلقي الرسالة في القصر دون أن يُشْعِرَ به أحداً، ثم ينتظر ليرى ماذا تفعل هي وقومها.يقول تعالى: {قالَ سَنَنظُرُ أَصَدَقْتَ أَمْ كُنتَ مِنَ الْكَاذِبِينَ (28) اذْهَب بِّكِتَابِي هَذَا فَأَلْقِهْ إِلَيْهِمْ ثُمَّ تَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ فَانظُرْ مَاذَا يَرْجِعُونَ}.وعندما رأت الملكة بلقيس الرسالة ونظرت فيها، جمعت حاشيتها وأطلعتهم عليها ثم طلبت منهم أن يشيروا عليها ويرشدوها ماذا تفعل؟
