Man attempts to kidnap child from Xenia school, attacks officer with pen

The incident at St. Brigid School in Xenia, Ohio, involved a 35-year-old man named Reid Duran, who attempted to kidnap a child during a school open house. Posing as a parent, Duran aimed to abduct the child for sinister purposes. According to police reports, he had planned to incapacitate the child using drug-laced Starburst candy. The school's principal alerted authorities when Duran's behavior raised suspicion.

After being confronted by police, Duran initially gave conflicting stories but eventually admitted his intentions. While being interrogated at the police station, he attempted to stab an officer with a pen, an act that was caught on surveillance video. Fortunately, the officer was unharmed, and Duran was subdued and charged with multiple crimes, including attempted kidnapping, assault on a police officer, and escape.

Duran's family later revealed that he suffers from schizophrenia, which may have contributed to his erratic behavior.
