— MY GUEST —

Prof. Stuart Firestone is the former Chair of Columbia University's Department of Biological Sciences where his lab studies the vertebrate olfactory system, possibly the best chemical detector on the face of the planet. His lab seeks to answer that fundamental human question: How do I smell? Well-known for his Ted Talk “The pursuit of ignorance” he is dedicated to promoting the accessibility of science to a public audience. He is the author of the books “Ignorance, How it Drives Science” and “Failure: Why Science is So Successful”.

💡Ignorance as the Key to Discovery
The pursuit of knowledge isn't about accumulating facts but embracing what we don't know. True scientific discovery lies in the exploration of ignorance, where asking better questions opens up new realms of possibility and deeper understanding.

💡 Embracing Failure for Advancement
Failure is not a setback but a critical tool for learning and progressing. By broadening our definition of success and recognizing the role failure plays in discovery, we can reshape our approach to personal and professional growth, embracing challenges as opportunities.

💡 Rethinking Education and Curiosity
Our educational system needs to evolve toward a more individualized, curiosity-driven model that values the ability to ask the right questions. This approach fosters deeper learning and challenges the rigid assumptions that limit our understanding of the world and ourselves.
