Exodus 36-39 Bible Study - The Tabernacle pt 9 - Construction of the Tabernacle and all its elements

In this Bible study, we cover Exodus 36.8 through the end of chapter 39. In this time we see the building of the Tabernacle, the Ark of the Covenant, the Table of Showbread, the Lampstand, the Alter of Showbread, the Altar of Incense, the Bronze Alter, also known as the Brazen Alter or the Altar of Burnt Offering. Additionally, we see the completion of the Bronze Basin which is also known as the Brazen Lavier or simply the basin for washing. We also see the formation of all the elements for the Tabernacle courtyard, as well as the priestly garments. We also cover Exodus 38 verses 21-31 which includes the total quantity of gold, silver, and bronze used in the creation of the Tabernacle and all its elements. Finally, all elements completed, “just as the Lord commanded Moses,” Moses inspects everything and is pleased.

17:11 - Exodus 38.21. The Tabernacle of the Covenant Law. This is one of the many names for the Tabernacle. The tent of the Covenant Law is another, as is the tent of meeting. The significance of this title is the clear tie to the covenant law given by God on Mount Sinai to Moses & the Israelites.

18:38 - Exodus 38.21 - Under the direction of Ithamar. He is one of Aaron’s 4 sons, Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar & Ithamar. We saw in Ex 28.1 where Ithamar was called forward to be one of the priests to serve in the temple. But here we see that he was in a role of leadership in the building of the Tabernacle.

20:07 - Exodus 38.24 - Total gold used in the Tabernacle: 29 Talents and 730 Shekels: 1 metric ton or 2,204 lbs. (small car)

21:27 - Exodus 38.25 - Total silver used in the Tabernacle: 100 talents and 1,775 shekels = 3.4 metric tons, or 7,495 lbs. (An empty flatbed semi-truck, or a male Orca whale)

22:30 - Exodus 38.26 - 603,550 Men

24:57 - Exodus 38.29 - Total bronze used in the Tabernacle: 70 talents and 2,400 shekels = 2.4 metric tons or 5,291 lbs. (Two small cars or a rhinoceros)

31:27 - Exodus 39.32-41 - Moses Inspects the completed elements of the Tabernacle.

32:58 - Conclusion. The Tabernacle was God’s dwelling place with his people, the Israelites. It was the holy place where they worshiped Yahweh. The Tabernacle was the instrument for the entire sacrificial system of the covenant law.
