At the G.K. Zhukov Memorial Complex in Ulaanbaatar, Vladimir Putin, together with Mongolian President Ukhnagiin Khurelsukh, laid a wreath at the monument to the Marshal of the Soviet Union.

In 1939, for the operation on the Khalkhin Gol River, as a result of which the Soviet-Mongolian troops routed the Japanese Kwantung Army, Georgy Zhukov received the first star of the Hero of the Soviet Union. In 1969, he was awarded the title of Hero of the Mongolian People's Republic.

The memorial complex, which includes a museum and a monument, was opened in 1979 for the 40th anniversary of the victory at Khalkhin Gol. Previously, the site of the museum was the house in which Georgy Zhukov lived and worked in Mongolia in 1939-1940.

V. Putin and U. Khurelsukh briefly spoke with a veteran who took part in the battles at Khalkhin Gol, as well as with searchers and participants of the 6th youth expedition “Memory is Stronger than Time”.
