* Gen 4:13-16 Cain was severely punished for this murder. God judges all sins and punishes appropriately, not out of vengeance, but because he desires to correct us and restore our fellowship with him. When you're corrected, don't resent it. Instead, renew your fellowship with God.

* Gen 4:17 Cain most likely acquired a wife from among his other siblings (v. Gen_4:14). The name Enoch means “Dedicated One,” the same name as the godly descendant of Seth who “walked with God” (Gen_5:21-24). The fact that Cain built a city named after his son speaks of a dramatic, rapid increase in population.

* Gen 4:18-24 Cain's descendant, Lamech tramples on God’s institution of marriage by taking two wives. The children he has begotten with these wives have received qualities from God but they use them for themselves: 1. Jabal is “the father of those who dwell in tents and [have] livestock”, which we can apply to economic prosperity, property and convenience. 2. Jubal is “the father of all those who play the lyre and pipe”, which we can apply to bringing entertainment through art and culture and other forms of amusement. 3. Tubal-cain is “the forger of all implements of bronze and iron”, which stands for science and technology. These things characterize the world today, where man arranges everything himself, without consulting God. This is rebellion!

Father, I refuse to live in rebellion at anypoint in my life. May I always delight myself in obeying you all the days of my life in Jesus' name! Eccl 12:13 NKJV
