Hey everyone, it's Lisa Jo, your essential oil enthusiast, coming to you from my kitchen with a bit of a grocery store saga! As you may know, I've recently moved from the sunny shores of Cocoa Beach, Florida, to the mountainous terrain of Lone Tree, Colorado. Today's story might sound trivial, but it's about the everyday struggles that come with relocating.

So, there I was at our local Safeway, just a stone's throw away from our new home. The adventure begins with what should have been a simple transaction. You know how it goes: to get those sale prices, you need to be part of the store’s system—phone number, loyalty card, the works. But here's where the plot thickens—apparently, at this Safeway, you need their specific app to access certain discounts, which was a new twist for me.

Eager to save on some treats, I stumbled upon a deal for Klondike bars—those nostalgic ice cream delights. Marked at a tantalizing $2.99, down from $6.98, it seemed like the universe aligning for my sweet tooth. However, when I went to check out, the price didn't reflect the discount. The young cashier, bless his heart, tried to help, but insisted I needed to use the app.

Now, I'm not one to shy away from a bit of thrifty confrontation. As we wrestled with the app, a queue formed, composed mostly of patient elderly folks who didn't mind the delay. After what felt like an eternity and some managerial assistance, we managed to get the app to cooperate. Victory was sweet, but it made me ponder the lost art of customer service.

This little episode was more than just about getting a discount on ice cream; it was a reflection on how technology is reshaping our everyday experiences, sometimes complicating what used to be simple. And while I'm all for embracing new tech, there’s a part of me that misses the straightforwardness of past interactions.

For those of you new to places with stores like Safeway, here’s a heads-up: get the app, set it up, and select your discounts before you shop to avoid any checkout surprises. It’s a bit of a hassle, but it does eventually offer substantial savings.

In all this, my small adventure at the grocery store is just one of the many facets of relocating and adapting to a new environment.
