The Right Lifted Me Up

Once, I stood with a moderate heart,
A Democrat, firm in belief from the start,
In the middle ground, I found my place,
With reason and hope, a steady pace.

But the winds of change began to blow,
From the left, a storm I didn’t know,
They pushed and shoved, they knocked me down,
For thoughts that once, no one would frown.

As I lay there, bruised and torn,
The voices of scorn, so harshly worn,
Republicans came, with hands held out,
They picked me up, with care, no doubt.

"Are you okay?" they gently asked,
As the far left’s fury unmasked,
Their shouts of "turncoat" filled the air,
But in their rage, I found no care.

It was then I knew, so clear, so bright,
That my old home was no longer right,
For in their anger, I lost my way,
And found a new dawn in the light of day.

No longer a Democrat, I stand anew,
With those who helped when the storm blew,
In the kindness found when I was down,
I found a place where I could stand my ground.
