The Drama Around The Canceled Woke Star Wars Show 'The Acolyte' Just Got More Hilarious

Posted • September 3, 2024: You'd think that the cancelation of the most recent entry in the latest woke mess that is the Star War franchise would be a wake-up call for people to realize that no one wants leftist socio-political garbage in their television shows, but for some reason, all the remaining Star Wars fan is fighting tooth and nail to have the show brought back. But this raised a counter-movement that looks like it's far stronger with the force. As I reported last month, "The Acolyte," a show filled with lesbian space witches and horrid writing, lead by Leslye Headland, the former right-hand gal of Harvey Weinstein, was canceled after it couldn't get good reviews by even a few leftist-friendly sites, and the already-abysmal viewership dwindled with every episode.

This then sparked a petition on change.org from its fans to get Disney to reverse its decision and push forward with a second season. The petition has been up since August 20, and currently has 65,000 signatures. It gives all the reasons you'd expect for the leftist-themed show to continue, including the idea that people can finally see themselves represented in Star Wars. The petition was reported about by many cultural websites, giving it good promotion and sending signatories its way. But as this petition began finding its feet, another one was created that didn't have the backing of the press. In fact, I didn't know it existed until Monday, but now I do… and now you do too.

The counter petition involves not just keeping the show from a second season, but completely de-canonizing it, and shunting it into the dustbin. Before it's accused of just being about hatred of the socio-political message, which is an absolutely valid reason to dislike the show, the petition makes it clear that this is ultimately just about it being a horrible show that destroys the Star Wars universe's logic: “Like so many fans of Star Wars, I found the show the acolyte absolutely frustrating. For some it might’ve been the abysmal writing, the ever-changing character motivations, or the awkward cinematography and strange jump cuts. The show was completely misdirected. For others could be the multiple ways the show breaks canon, jangles keys of established characters damaging them in the future or the way the show makes the prophecy of the chosen one completely insignificant. Help me show Disney that we want to reset the prequel era back to George's original vision that I know so many of us love.”

Hilariously, it garnered more signatures in its first day than the renewal petition did on its day one. To be clear, even if you take a lot of the messaging out of it, it is a show that completely disrespects the Star Wars franchise in ways that go beyond mere incompetence. It is a total rewrite of the Star Wars universe that looks more like bad fan fiction than anything George Lucas conceived. If Disney were to get back on track and undo the damage the show did, they could absolutely de-canonize "The Acolyte" and delete it from Disney+ altogether. It wouldn't be the first time Disney has done this. It wouldn't even be the first time Disney did this with a Lucasfilm property. Remember Willow 2? Probably not. It, too, was a mess of horribly written woke garbage that Disney deleted and memory-holed.

Moreover, this is probably not the kind of fan base Disney wants guiding its creative goals. Let's face facts, this isn't the first time a woke show was canceled after audiences denounced it and turned their backs. It doesn't make any money and only cheapens the brand. Reputations get ruined, and fewer dollars make it into the accounts. You know that ol' saying. Get woke, go broke. But on top of that, the woke fan base is just insanely toxic. My friend Sydney Watson made a video about "The Acolyte" and the problems behind it and promptly received accusations of racism, sexism, internalized misogyny, and more. The show didn't just deserve to be canceled because it's awful in every way, but these people deserve to lose the very idea that they should have the control over the cultural landscape that they do. They should be put on the back foot in this argument and driven back into the bad fan fiction websites where they belong.

If you can, go sign that counter-petition and send a message to Disney. They aren't likely to make a second season for the Acolyte anyway, but the point needs to be made, both to Disney and these weirdos. This is the way we win the culture war. We make it clear that there is no money waiting for them in these hyper-political creations, and that we're more than happy to continue to speaking out against these things and not showing up to watch them when they're released. Believe me, it works.
