In this blues-inspired song, "Living Water Blues," we delve into the powerful story of the Woman at the Well, as told in John 4. This encounter between Jesus and a Samaritan woman is a profound revelation of identity, grace, and transformation. The woman, burdened by her past, comes to the well in the heat of the day, only to meet the One who knows her heart and offers her living water—water that quenches the deepest thirst and brings eternal life.

Through this life-changing conversation, Jesus reveals that true worship is not about the place but the spirit and truth within. As He speaks into her life, the woman’s shame is lifted, and she discovers her true identity as seen through the eyes of divine love. This song captures that moment of transformation, where the old falls away, and new life begins.

The Mirror Bible provides a unique perspective on many New Testament passages, including the story of the Woman at the Well. For a more detailed look, here’s an extended excerpt inspired by the Mirror Bible’s focus on identity and grace:

John 4:1-14 (Paraphrased from the Mirror Bible)

1 Jesus knew that the Pharisees had heard He was making and baptizing more disciples than John.
2 (Though Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His disciples did.)
3 He left Judea and went away again into Galilee.
4 It was necessary for Him to pass through Samaria.
5 So He came to a city of Samaria, called Sychar, near the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
6 Jacob’s well was there. Jesus, therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.

7 There came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.”
8 For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.
9 The Samaritan woman therefore said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask for a drink from me, who am a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.
10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

11 The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. From where then have You that living water?
12 Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, and his sons, and his cattle?”
13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again,
14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never thirst again, but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”

** The Living Water Blues Lyrics:

Verse 1:
She walked to the well, with her head held low,
Carrying the weight, of all she didn't know.
But there sat a man, who knew her by name,
He spoke of living water, put her shame to flame.

Chorus:
He said, "Woman, if you knew the gift I give,
You’d drink deep of me, and forever live."
She found her freedom, where the world saw sin,
In the light of His love, she was born again.

Verse 2:
Five husbands gone, and a life so torn,
But He looked in her eyes, said, "You’re not forlorn."
"I’m the one you seek, I’ve been waiting here,
To reveal who you are, and draw you near."

Chorus:
He said, "Woman, if you knew the gift I give,
You’d drink deep of me, and forever live."
She found her freedom, where the world saw sin,
In the light of His love, she was born again.

Bridge:
He told her, "Worship isn’t bound by place,
But in spirit and truth, you’ll find my grace."
Her heart was awakened, her chains fell away,
In the words of Jesus, she found her way.

Verse 3:
She ran to the town, with a story to tell,
"Come see the man, who knows me so well!"
No longer ashamed, she stood in His light,
The woman at the well, was reborn that night.

Chorus:
He said, "Woman, if you knew the gift I give,
You’d drink deep of me, and forever live."
She found her freedom, where the world saw sin,
In the light of His love, she was born again.
