Hundreds in Nejapa, El Salvador, came to Las Bolas de Fuego festival,the 102nd edition, where blazing spheres flew through the streets in a dramatic fireball fight. The event, established in 1922, commemorates a volcanic eruption of 1658 that forced residents to abandon the city. According to a legend, patron saint San Jeronimo battled the devil with fireballs to protect his town during the eruption.
