In CH 1 we saw John talking to these new Jewish converts to Christianity… a bit of a misnomer…any John reminds them and us that GOD is light. He talks about the believer in Yeshua walking in the light of GOD rather than in the darkness of the KOD.
Also in CH 2 we see loving versus hating another believer. A warning to all about loving the things of the world over the love for the creator. Worshipping the creation rather than and over more than the creator. A warning about that lust of the senses, eyes, ears, material possessions.
In CH 3 John tells us that we are children of GOD, therefore we ought to live like we are. In that way of life we are not to live in a constant state of a sinful lifestyle. John contrasts children of GOD with those who follow ungodly lifestyle, children of the devil, the father of lies. The consequences of loving versus hating a brother. Loving in words and deeds and Truth.
John’s warning here is not against those who pretend to have the Spirit’s presence and thus are false prophets, that is bad enough. But here it is against genuine evil spirits’ who are inspiring these false prophets. These false prophets were and are inspired by the evil one.
