These kids got a very, very frosty reception on their latest travels. Don’t worry, though, they were supposed to – they went to the North Pole. Young people from 15 countries, including Russia, Uzbekistan, Tunisia, Cameroon, and China, embarked on a scientific and educational expedition to the North Pole aboard the nuclear-powered icebreaker ‘50 Let Pobedy’ on August 22. The ‘Icebreaker of Knowledge’ program, organized by Rosatom, aimed to popularize science and technology, with participants enjoying lectures, master classes, and science games during their two-day journey through the Arctic, which returned home to Murmansk on August 23.

The expedition marked the 65th anniversary of Russia’s nuclear icebreaker fleet. The youngsters got chance to explore the vessel, learn about its operations, and reflect on the unique experiences of traveling through the icy, dangerous and desolate Arctic Ocean. And they probably all got along brilliantly too – there were plenty of opportunities to break the ice.
