A Texas Democratic lawmaker has decided that she will be leaving her party to join the Republican Party.

State Representive Shawn Thierry, a Houston-based Democrat, announced on Friday that she will be officially making
the switch. She was ousted in May by her primary challenger Lauren Ashley Simmons after supporting
Republican bills opposing L G B T ideology, including the banning of sex change surgeries on children.

Thierry said that she is joining the Republican Party because the Democratic Party
has veered so far left, so deep into the progressive abyss, that it now champions policies that I cannot,
in good conscience, support.
