The acclaimed rapper, DJ, and beloved hype man collapsed during a performance at Hamden Town Center Park in Connecticut on Friday, and despite the best efforts of medics, he was unable to be revived.

Born on August 6, 1971, Fatman Scoop’s unmistakable voice and infectious energy made him a household name in the hip-hop community and beyond. A native of New York City, Scoop began his career in the early 1990s and quickly rose to prominence with his larger-than-life persona, becoming the ultimate crowd motivator known for his booming chants of “Make some noise!” and “Put your hands up!”
