How to Study Your Bible Part 1: Overcoming Confusion & Gaining a Deeper Understanding

Summary
Many listeners write and ask me how to study the Bible, what the best Bible to use is, whether there are study Bibles I prefer, etc. These questions are valid concerns since there is much confusion and division over the Scriptures. My position will only be one of many, but I’ve prayed about this and decided to start a series on how to study your Bible. If God preserved His Word for us and said He did, then He intended for us to know Him through the Scriptures. Religion gets in the way and tries to obscure the true faith and meaning of the Bible. Let’s see if we can cut through the noise and hear the very voice of God!

The Unlock the Bible Now ministry provides weekly Sunday Bible Studies to help you understand God's word and unlock the secrets found in the Bible.

Notes:
The Holy Ghost is our Teacher
We interpret the Bible by comparing Scripture with Scripture
We consider what Paul said to gain understanding
We must rightly divide the Word of Truth

Rightly dividing: ὀρθοτομέω (or-thot-om-eh'-o) - to cut straight, to cut straight ways, to proceed on straight paths, hold a straight course, equiv. to doing right, to make straight and smooth, to handle aright, to teach the truth directly and correctly

Word of truth: λόγον ἀληθείας (logos aletheia) - a word, uttered by a living voice, embodies a conception or idea
what someone has said
what is true in any matter under consideration
truly, in truth, according to truth
of a truth, in reality, in fact, certainly

Scriptures:
All Scripture references are from the King James Version of the Bible

2 Timothy 2:7-10, 1 Timothy 2:5-7, 2 Timothy 1:11-12, John 4:21-24, Matthew 10:5-7, 2 Timothy 2:15, 1 Corinthians 2:12-13, 2 Peter 1:20-21, 2 Peter 3:15-16, Psalm 56:4-6, Hebrews 4:12, Ephesians 1:13, Galatians 2:1-2

Takeaway:
Lord willing, next week, we will continue to build upon the idea that the gospel of OUR salvation differs from the gospel of ISRAEL’S salvation. We are to study (work hard) to rightly divide the gospel of our salvation. We will continue to consider what Paul says, comparing Scripture with Scripture so the Holy Ghost will teach us. In so doing, we will gain a deeper understanding of the Bible, and confusion and division begins to melt away. Congratulations! You’ve just taken the first step in how to study your Bible.
