The Terror is a gothic horror film directed by Roger Corman and co-directed by several others, including Francis Ford Coppola and Jack Nicholson, who also stars in the film. It is set in the early 19th century and features a haunting blend of mystery, supernatural elements, and eerie atmosphere.

The film follows André Duvalier (played by Jack Nicholson), a French soldier who becomes lost in Germany during the Napoleonic Wars. He stumbles upon a mysterious woman named Helene (played by Sandra Knight) near the seashore, who disappears after leading him to a castle. The castle is owned by the reclusive Baron Victor Frederick Von Leppe (played by Boris Karloff). As Duvalier investigates, he uncovers dark secrets involving the Baron, the mysterious woman, and a tragic past.

The Baron is haunted by the death of his wife, Ilsa, and Duvalier suspects that Helene may be her ghost. Strange and supernatural occurrences follow as Duvalier tries to piece together the truth, leading to a final revelation involving guilt, vengeance, and dark magic.

The Terror(1963) is known for its eerie mood, Karloff's haunting performance, and the unusual production history, where much of it was improvised and filmed quickly to utilize leftover sets from another Corman film, The Raven. The film's disjointed plot and dreamlike quality add to its cult appeal.
