HEADBANGERS BALL - EP 67 – “Goodbye, Summer”

What’s going on headbangers, Erick Benhardtson here, your host for SGT Rock's Headbangers Ball! Welcome back to the most wicked awesome Heavy Metal show on Rumble! Come on over and join us Veterans for the party up here on Freedom Hill, overlooking the beautiful Rappahannock river, broadcasting at 150,000 Watts of pure Heavy Metal power where the beer is always cold, the food is always hot, and the music is always loud. This show is filled with rock and metal from all generations. Putting this show together I just really wanted to put some country rock/metal on the show too and make it a show that everyone could enjoy from all ages and generations.

Today, is Saturday, 31 August 2024. Officially, it is the end of summer. Thinking back to when I was a kid the new school stuff and clothes have already been bought, the parties are winding down, a different air is in the air and kids are talking about returning to school at the parks and backyard End of Summer parties. The older kids are partying like they’re going off to jail for 25 years, the college kids are returning from their vacations. Families being reunited. Where I’m from, Minnesota, we’d all go to the Minnesota State Fair. Which started 10 days from Labor Day. A long-standing tradition. All the families in the neighborhood attended the fair as a huge group. Great memories. Another tradition of ours was to go see one last movie at the drive-in cinema lot as a family. We’d go see a blockbuster or a movie for Mom. Yeah, we got dragged to some the vintage cinema, but if Mom was happy, life was great.

That’s what summer was all about man. Good times and building great memories. But something just hung there. You could see it in the eyes, man. That summer had ended, and we all had to go back to living a different life. That’s the amazing thing about summer. For a kid, over 100 days of no school, responsibility, or giving a fuck. We celebrated this last week in August like the first time we put hands on boobs, man. Hands…on…boobs! Goodbye, Summer. See you next year. Until then, like The Cars said, “Let the good times roll!”

This day, while you’re watching this show, I’m out on the road, with the show blaring through my speakers. Singing along with every song. Scaring Moms and Dads at red lights as they look at me and I scream along with the tunes. We also have a world premiere this week from a band that I haven’t heard from since the early 2000s. Metal and Rock are for everyone, I get that. But the last Headbanger Saturday of August, should be a national holiday with having the preceding Friday off! “End of Summer Day”. Let the good times roll, headbangers! GenX for life, baby! Raised on hose water and neglect.

This is the greatest thing about SGT Rock’s Headbangers Ball folks. With all the “Music at your fingertips today. Whatever happened to being excited about something? Music at your fingertips is one thing. Being excited to see, “What is SGT Rock going to play next week.” Is the feeling I’m trying to bring y’all back to a time when me, my team, Baby Boomers and GenX headbangers had this show on a cable station that has since 1995 turned into an indoctrination channel for the poisoning of today’s kids. It makes me fuckin physically sick so I’m not going to mention those bastards who stopped playing music and started with a show called, “The Real World, San Francisco” and the disgusting reality TV shows and tomfuckery that has since then dumbed down those in the Millennial, GenZ, and GenA generations who you see today on social media.

And that’s sad. Because before all this indoctrination, that channel was about music, man. Just the music. The interviews, our heavy metal show on Saturday nights, our Summer. And then some fuckin suit and politician had to step in and fuck us over. That’s why I made this show. To give you that feeling you had and can have of “What’s SGT Rock going to have on the show next week?”

SGT Rock’s Headbangers Ball is not just a show; it’s a rite of passage for those who find solace in the heavy metal’s cathartic embrace, a sonic call to the headbangers, the moshers, and the fist-raisers. Keep your horns held high and that volume knob cranked to 11! This is YOUR…Headbangers Ball!
