A 2021 interview with the late Viraj Mendis is released in remembrance of the solidarity activist, who sadly passed away on 16 August 2024, aged just 68. In this almost two-hour-long wide-ranging conversation with TamilNet, the veteran solidarity activist narrated the controversial role of the US, UK and India concerning the Eelam Tamil struggle on the island of Sri Lanka.  Narrating the geopolitical injustice causing the ban on the Tamil freedom movement, he explained how the US contained certain European countries and the EU that had initially attempted to facilitate genuine peace.  Furthermore, Mendis shed light on how the Tamil struggle learnt lessons from the Irish, South African, Palestinian and Latin American struggles. He detailed how he and his Sinhala, Irish and German friends organised Permanent Peoples’ Tribunal (PPT) sessions in Dublin and Bremen. He also spoke on the challenges faced by the Tamil diaspora, which was facing heavy pressure from the Establishments to distance itself from the moral liberation politics.

VIRAJ MENDIS WILL STAY IN THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF EELAM TAMILS FOREVER!
