The Supreme Court is keeping on hold the latest multibillion-dollar student debt relief plan from the Biden -Harris administration, while multiple lawsuits make their way through lower courts.
The justices rejected a request by the administration request to put most of their student loan relief back into effect – which was blocked by the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals.
In an unsigned order, the court said it expects the appeals court to issue a fuller decision on the plan.
The Education Department wants to provide a faster path for people to cancel their student loans, and reduce the amount people pay each month, based on their income.
The new SAVE plan would cost anywhere from $276 billion to $475 billion.
Last year, the Supreme Court rejected an earlier plan that would have wiped away more than $400 billion in student loan debt.
