Audio Doctoring Old Recordings, Bruce Springsteen

Today and Yesterday I have been listening and attempting to better some old tape recorded concerts. This time the old slutty recordings of one of the world's ultimate sluts Bruce Springsteen! This guy even sold all his music rights to Sony. What's sluttier than that?

But I mean, sereousely, I used to listen to this when I was a young High School guy in the 80s, and I got chills from how good it sounds. I always got those chills from some of this stuff. Aparentlly a guy named David Sancious or Sanchez on the pianos, of course Clarence Clemons on the sax. The early seventies stuff.

Well once again I was listening to Spirit in the Night last Saturday or Friday in the middle of the night, and I was thinking y'know we know a lot more today than we did in 87. Maybe there are some old recordings of this stuff?

Because for me the question has always been really , What the fuck is up with old Bruce Springsteen music? The stuff is poetic and that's not all, it has great music. Of course as the Aerosmith box set Pandaros Box is quick to state, Bruce got the Money, Aerosmith got the popularity. They spent just a bit more on promoting and recording Bruce Springsteen than they did in Aerosmith's early days, which were bost east seaborad groups and I guess you see the timese are comparable for the two groups. As the Pandaros Box goes on to state: Aerosmith is the reason the girls skirts are shorter. Well I know you can't say that about slutty Bruce. So what gives?

I go back to a lyric like "rave on, John Dunne" by Van Morrison (and the first episode of Cheers mentions Dunne and Sam says "I certainly hope so" gufaw, but all hilarity aside, when it comes to rave on, I think you could say that about this slutty Bruce Music.

So slutty! He was really a modern kid. And you can see what a kid he was when you look at videos like "Growin Up" live in 72. Which was the year I searched for. This guy looks like someone you went to school with you know? But slutty it is. You are reminded of some sort of modern slutty guys you could think of but it may be better not to name., but the 90s were full of such people. Infested with termites that brought down the country 20 years later. Buggy ass sluttyness seems to be the thing. Just listen to any of this stuff. I didn't understand what I was hearing, I just liked the way it sounded. Gay ass slutty ass lyrics about circus folk queers and dancing and fighting and other things you would hear in slutty music from Pete Townshend to David Bowie. Certainly a gritty bunch of songs Bruce has for us.

But it is poetic stuf, he was a child in the era of the beatinicks. He probably learnt a lot from them. It is not like the other music of the times. Certainly my friend who was listening to Mettalica Master of Puppets at the time, and mixing in his Ozzy and Beastie Boys did not have any understanding why I would listen to the Bruce Springstteen Music. But it was one of the prominent pieces of my Tape Collection commonly found in my Sony Walkman at the time.

I just wanted to say all that prefacing today's episode in which I (finally noticed that there were shows) edit his earliest things, with some noise reduction and other FX in an attempt to clarify and doctor the old recordings.

I started doing this yesterday and I spent pretty much the whole day working on it. There are a lot of these old recordings turns out, and I am going to focus on some new stuff I didn't do yesterday but I may go back in and listen to some stuff from yesterday.

As always working in Studio One and here I will be leaning pretty heavy on the excellent Izotope RX7 noise reduction and hum reduction plugins I found that I have about a year ago, which miraculously take out static and noise.

I have attempted to keep the air while doing this but it isn't easy to do. It can stifle the audio recordings a lot when you remove the noise. Some would say don't do this because you need every piece of what's there. Others would say don't waste your time it can't be done (that's what I would say actually).

But I am interested in more just the sound, the music has alway had a special place in my heart because it is just really really good. Despite its extreme slutty nature, which becomes even more apparent when you listen to the nervous kid that Bruce was up there in the live shows in 72 and 73 and 75, and he had good reason to be nervous, he was pretty much a moron on the degree of like a Jay and Silent Bob or other 90s wigger level, just more like a kid who never shut up when he should have. We've all been there. Well maybe you haven't you're so damn perfect. ! I know that's right. Your good breeding won't let you transgress like others do.

But this is some slutty stuff yall. And every part of it is just as slutty as can be, mostly heterosexual but allso alluding to a few faggy scenes like the circus one, which I remember from those times myself when I liestened to it, as thinking this was a little bit queer music wasn't it? Well, I am pretty sure that it was this mix between Bob Seger and Lindsey Buckingham that prompted the lyric by was it Wild Cherry? Play That Funky Music White Boy.

Well when you listen to something like Spirit in the Night, you get that there is obviously a scene being painted here by the guy but the music is so damn good, especially in the version from My Father's Place in "old Roslyn" as the DJ says the music is just so good that it's hard to disagree with any of it. Even though I know your good upbringing and breeding makes you want to deny the human aspects, with your dreams of owning the world in '84.

Then when you listen to any of the other golden classics such as NYC Serenade, you don't realize when you're a kid, that you're just not that caliber of gangsta that you would be prominading down the avenue in NYC. These two tracks NYC Serenade, and Of course Kitty's Back, Sandy, Incident on was it 57th street? Lost in the Flood, I haven't even got to the bit about Manfredd Mann yet. But there is a lot of material to go over so I must abbreviate my comments here or the day will get past me. SO Without further Adiew I wll get into the music production live part of this....
