Canada hits China-made electric cars with 100% tariff

Canada will impose a 100% tariff on China-made electric vehicles (EVs) and a 25% duty on Chinese steel and aluminum, following similar moves by the US and EU.

These measures, set to take effect in October, are in response to accusations that China unfairly subsidizes its EV industry.

China has criticized the tariffs as “trade protectionism” and a violation of World Trade Organization rules.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that the tariffs are intended to protect Canada’s automotive sector, the BBC has reported.
