A landslide in Ketchikan, Alaska, has killed at least one person, injured three others, and caused significant damage to roads and homes.

The landslide occurred on Sunday afternoon, prompting mandatory evacuations and search and rescue operations by Alaska State Troopers and local authorities.

Governor Mike Dunleavy issued an Alaska Disaster Emergency Declaration, and local leaders also declared a Joint Disaster Emergency.

The landslide, described as unprecedented in the area, was likely triggered by heavy rainfall over the weekend.

Officials warned that the area remains unstable, with geologists set to assess the risk of further slides, ABC News has reported.
